Cgc Worthy
Posted by admin on Thursday Sep 8, 2011 Under ComicsDo you think dogs who do well in the show ring as well as on the field and/or performance ring such as…?
…obedience, agility, etc are ONLY the type of dogs that are worthy of being bred? Should champion or top winning show dogs with sound structure, temperament, movement, whatever be used for breeding eventhough they can’t even do simple Basic OB commands and/or pass CGC exam???
What are your thoughts. Speak your mind.
For working breeds (herding, sporting, guarding, etc) , working ability comes first. It is a much harder constellation of traits to breed for. This is less true for basic hunting skills, which is why you do see dual champion Bassetts, but that protection and herding breeds are almost completely separated into working and show lines, with very little crossover. IMO, in the breeds where the show and working lines have split, it is the working lines which have the “correct” conformation and type, rather than the show lines.
I will not ever get a dog from purely show lines. I would much rather get a pup from dogs with a working championship, than a conformation championship.
Waiting for the TDs!
